A Tax Lawyer is a true Tax Expert

There is a lot more to your income taxes than simply filing a tax return.  Many times people are unaware of the various intricacies that could legitimately save them real tax dollars. Time can be wasted by looking for information that is irrelevant or immaterial to the final tax return.

Tax returns must comply with the vast and obscure field of tax law. The massive field of tax law is composed of the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, Revenue Rulings, Revenue Procedures, Determination Letters, Notices of Acquiescence or Non-acquiescence, Technical Advice Memoranda, General Counsel Memoranda, Actions on Decisions, Tax Court decisions, Supreme Court tax decisions, and a large body of other judicial determinations.  The vast majority of CPAs has not heard of any or all of these terms and has no idea of what tax law is!

We have an extensive knowledge of the tax law and its recent amendments. Our knowledge of the tax field expands well beyond the forms and the checkboxes. Simply said, we know what’s behind the form.  We know the footnotes, the small print, and everything in between. This allows us to keep our focus on saving our clients real tax dollars while at the same time preparing fully accurate and 100% compliant tax returns.

We can prepare tax returns for all entities and on all levels to keep our clients in compliance with each and every taxing authority.

Unfiled Tax Returns

The IRS estimates that each year some ten million people fail to file their tax returns. Non-filers, as the IRS calls them, face both criminal and civil problems that can be resolved if addressed, but which can bring imprisonment and financial ruin if ignored.

As its computer capabilities improve, the IRS is becoming increasingly adroit at finding and pursuing non-filers.  So, while the IRS may not have found you yet, sooner or later they will. When it happens, the IRS can make tax assessments on its own using its "substitute for return" procedures, or it can prosecute you for willful failure to file (a misdemeanor carrying a maximum sentence of one year in prison for each tax year), or for tax evasion (a felony carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison for each tax year).

Please understand that not having the money to pay the tax is NOT a valid excuse for not filing. Indeed, if it can be shown that you decided not to file for this reason, the IRS will use this evidence to prove that you knew you should have filed and instead you “willfully” decided not to file.

There are many ways to address the problem of unfiled returns while at the same time avoiding all civil and criminal penalties. We can deal very effectively with these cases, and most times we can solve these kinds of problems with just a few hundred dollars.
